Apparel retailer C&A, which is struggling on some of its markets, has strengthened its European senior management team. The Dutch group has hired Frank Beeck as COO for central and eastern Europe, working alongside Bart Brenninkmeijer, the group's current Europe COO.

The two managers will split the continent among themselves: Frank Beeck, who will start in his new role on 15th January and will also sit on the board of directors, will be in charge of Austria, Switzerland, and central and eastern Europe. Bart Brenninkmeijer will instead oversee France, Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain and Portugal.

Frank Beeck began his career at German department store Peek & Cloppenburg in Düsseldorf, before joining Mango, where he worked between 2006 and 2010 as country manager for central Europe. He then became CEO of Swiss chain Charles Vögele until 2014, and later worked as a management consultant.

C&A is struggling in Europe, and recently announced the sale of 13 stores in France, as part of its transformation effort. The 1,500-store group adopted a new strategic plan in 2016, aiming to "adapt its structure and business model to the evolution of the apparel market, which is undergoing a profound transformation."
