Founded in 2000 and 80 percent owned by the giant inspection and certification group SGS, Bluesign Technologies provides solutions that rely on more sustainable criteria for optimizing the technical aspects and quality of apparel companies’ products. Brands such as Nike, Bergans of Norway or The North Face have already formed partnerships with the Bluesign system.

Meanwhile, the German sports equipment manufacturer Adidas, which in 2013 audited 149 of its suppliers for environmental practices, has committed to the goal of 99 percent of its products containing no perfluorocarbons (PFCs) by December 31, 2017. Currently 90 percent of the company’s products contain the chemical pollutant.
