Converse reveals new Jonathan Anderson styles

Converse is continuing to make waves with its JW Anderson collaboration and it looks like its strategy of releasing the product in multiple phases is paying off as it’s creating numerous peak demand periods and more opportunities to grab media exposure for the overall collection.

It has just rereleade the final chapter of collection one in the ongoing collaboration with the New_Classics duo “symbolic of what’s to come” and epitomising “the inherent tension of Jonathan [Anderson’s] curiosity and broad cultural reference with Converse’s sneaker legacy.”

The designer has looked once again to the vintage ballet slipper that inspired the silhouette design of the Chuck 70 U-Throat in the earlier Glitter_Gutter collection back in December.

The company said Jonathan Anderson has re-interpreted classic elements of the slipper “for a modern materialisation that juxtaposes natural materials with a tech expression.”

Anderson had said for the first U-Throat silhouette: “A vintage ballerina that inspired it was actually more of a sport slipper in mesh. I liked the functionality and lightness of that shoe, and we decided to adopt some details to reinterpret the icon.”

Now, for a natural take on the sport mesh slipper, an open cotton knit with leather detailing is applied to the upper of the Chuck 70 XX Hi and the Chuck 70 U-Throat.

On the former, the Chuck Taylor patch appears in leather, with a lacing system allows for various styling options. On the rubber foxing tape of Converse’s vulcanised sole, a black and off-white print detail is applied, inspired by the textile-wrapped midsole of the ballet slipper.

The New-Classics offer launches on April 4 on both Converse’s and JW Anderson’s websites as well as in a number of stores globally.
