Cotton On takes major UK logistics space

Despite a volatile UK consumer economy at present, Cotton On Group clearly sees Britain as a key target market and just over a year after it officially launched in the country, the Australian e-tail giant has taken a lease on a logistics space in a massive industrial estate in Nottinghamshire.

The company will occupy an 81,000 sq ft unit at Blenheim Industrial Estate.

The business opened its first store in 1991 and has 1,500 outlets in 22 countries, as well as employing around 18,000 people. But it chose to launch in the UK in late spring last year via a web offer only.

The new unit will be a distribution centre for the firm, Thebusinessdesk reported.

The industrial estate is a popular logistics site as it's located at a junction of the M1 motorway and is therefore in a prime position for anyone looking to distribute goods across the UK.

Cotton On also sells via ASOS in Britain and while there had been rumours in recent years that it would launch stores, it took a decision to go online-only for the first time.

At the time of the launch in 2021, CEO Peter Johnson called the debut “a significant milestone for our brand and our business”.
