Another season, and another artist at Christian Dior. Kim Jones' latest linkup with a major fine artist is with Peter Doig, the multi-disciplinary Scottish painter, whose collaboration will be seen in the Dior Homme’s winter 2021 collection.

All will be revealed at 2 p.m. Paris time on Friday, January 22, when Dior Men will unveil a video of the collection during the six-day Paris menswear season that begins tomorrow.

One of the world’s most famous living artists, Doig is best known as a figurative painter, of whose works two have sold for more than $25 million. His semi-abstract landscape paintings echoing his youth – from the tropical imagery of his childhood in Trinidad to the snowy scenes of his later youthful days in Canada.

He even has a fashion connection: Doig briefly had a part-time job as a dresser at the English National Opera. And a French connection: Doig created a series of paintings while living with a group of artists and architects who operated the famous Unité d’Habitation communal living apartment building designed by Le Corbusier. Born in Dundee, Scotland, Doig moved back to Trinidad in 2002, and has lived there ever since. He has had major solo exhibition in Tate Britain, the Paris Museum of Modern Art, Dallas Museum of Art and Whitechapel Art Gallery.

“Since the early 1990s, he has been re-establishing and reinventing the power of painting, breathing into it a fresh modernity inhabited by a deep knowledge of art history, and cross-pollinating inspirations and disciplines such as photography and cinema,” said Dior in a release. And the latest cross-pollination will be with Kim Jones, who during his tenure at Dior has worked with Kaws, Daniel Arsham, Hajime Sorayama and most recently Kenny Scharf.
