Christian Dior has announced a unique collaboration for a charity project. The luxury house of the LVMH group has partnered with young South African designer Thebe Magugu to create a capsule collection inspired by its famous "New Look". As part of this collaboration, it has made a donation, without revealing the amount, to the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, an association created in 2007 by the eponymous actress to promote AIDS prevention and education programs for young South Africans. Originally from South Africa, Charlize Theron is an ambassador of Dior.

Dior's creative director of women's collections, Maria Grazia Chiuri, asked Magugu to design "a reinterpretation of the iconic New Look, through his contemporary feminist vision," said the brand in a statement. For the occasion, Dior has established a dialogue between their two studios and creative workshops, from Paris to Johannesburg.

This limited edition collection will be available from October 27 in Dior's most prestigious boutiques.

The 2019 LVMH Prize winner designed a young and modern "New Look" silhouette from a cotton T-shirt decorated with a drawing of two women holding hands (which will be produced in South Africa), a feathery tulle skirt, all enhanced by a Dior Oblique canvas bob with two yellow cords with Thebe Magugu's signature, a matching Dior bag, as well as a pair of Diorcamp boots and a yellow silk scarf.

The 28-year-old founded his women's ready-to-wear brand in 2016, which was expanded in 2021 to include a men's collection. Based in Johannesburg, he produces his collections in South Africa, using many local artisans. Thanks to the LVMH Prize, the designer has gained visibility and now shows in Paris. He was the first talent to be invited by AZ Factory to design a collection as part of the "Amigos" project calling for collaborations.
