Sandro is going places. The French label founded in 1984 by Evelyne Chetrite has chosen the New York Fashion Week as the backdrop for the inauguration of its first flagship store in the US metropolis. The shop is located at 117 Prince Street, in the SoHo district, and extends over 215 m2, becoming the largest Sandro store in the USA and showcasing the label's womenswear and menswear collections.

For the new flagship store, Sandro chose a pared-down, inspiring interior design, with white walls, oak-coloured parquet floors and 1950s furniture. The retail area is brightened by artworks, such as those by Brazilian artist Julia Brandao and by ceramist Marianne Smink.

The store will present exclusive capsule collections, the first created in collaboration with ceramics specialist Atelier Buffile, from the South of France. It consists of cups and pitchers decorated with a design created by Atelier Buffile, which will also feature on a series of jersey cotton t-shirts. All the items will be on sale at the new store.

Sandro is now present in 39 countries with 640 stores, of which 17 are in the USA, 4 in Canada and 180 in France. In 2019, Sandro further emphasised its international ambitions by striking deals for online distribution with JD.com, to boost its presence in China, and with Farfetch, enabling the label to be available in 190 countries.

Sandro is the leading label of the SMCP group, which includes Sandro, Maje, Claudie Pierlot and, recently, Fursac. Last April, the label appointed a new president, Isabelle Allouch, formerly in charge of Claudie Pierlot. In the second quarter 2019, sales for Sandro grew by 10%, reaching €129.9 million, while those of the SMCP group, owned by Chinese conglomerate Shandong Ruyi since 2016, increased by 10.1%, reaching €267.5 million.
