Italian designer Aldo Maria Camillo will be guest of honour of the Pitti Italics Special Event at the Pitti Uomo 95 show, which will be held in Florence on January 8-11 2019. For the occasion, the former creative director of Cerruti 1881, who also worked for Valentino and Ermenegildo Zegna, will launch the first menswear collection for his label Aldomariacamillo.

Camillo, who was born in Rome in 1975, said he conceived the collection as the ideal contemporary men's wardrobe. “My label is the start of a new chapter,” said Camillo, “a place where I can express my vision of fashion and where I can tell my own story. I believe that clothes are tools that reveal what we are, with no need for words. With my label, I would like to design a wardrobe that evolves over time, whose items have the quality to last as long as possible. ‘Radici’ [roots] is the project’s chapter zero, the place of memories: the 1990s, military-style vintage, Margiela and Helmut Lang, the bespoke jackets I pinched from my father.”

“Aldo Maria Camillo works with utmost concentration on men's fashion,” said Lapo Cianchi, communication and events director at show organiser Pitti Immagine, adding that “he has analysed the male figure, striving to offer a fresh new take on and bring a new zest to men’s ready-to-wear. He has a classical education, strengthened by a solid grounding in design and a sharp instinct for the contemporary, and not just in terms of what is happening in the world of fashion. He has talent, imagination and a feel for materials.”

“Aldo Maria’s new project is highly personal, and we felt immediately involved in it, because we believe that for menswear it is essential to return to the canon of classic elegance, reinterpreted and updated with a modern twist. We want to share a journey with [Camillo], the launch of his eponymous brand, which requires courage, now more than ever,” said Cianchi.
