Kelly Slater is moving into womenswear.

The professional surfer's sustainable lifestyle label Outerknown is debuting its first fashion collection for women for Spring 2019. The move is a major milestone for the brand, which was co-founded as a menswear label by Slater and the designer John Moore back in 2015.

The 17-piece womenswear series spans versatile separates inspired by changemaking women. The collection is crafted entirely from organic, recycled, and/or regenerated fibers and features tops, dresses and pants in neutral colorways. Standout designs include a 100% organic cotton ‘Canyon Dress', ‘Bee Shirt' and ‘Pacific Kimono', created in collaboration with Piece & Co, an organization that aims to empower women globally through textile manufacturing. The collection is priced at $48 through $268.

"Women were always 'borrowing from the boys' and have continuously showed their support of our ethos, quality and style," said John Moore of the decision to move into womenswear. "We thought it was time to give them pieces they could call their own."

The new collection comes with a campaign starring the environmental activist and ‘Trash is for Tossers' blogger Lauren Singer, the activist and founder of Female Collective, Candace Reels, and model and founder of Chasseresse, Raychel Roberts.

Outerknown is the latest brand doubling down on sustainability, which has become a hot topic in the fashion industry over the last few years, led by brands such as H&M, Asos and Stella McCartney.
