The official five-day event was scheduled to take place May 11-15, 2020, at Carriageworks and other select venues throughout Sydney.

The designer schedule includes a lineup of Australia’s established and emerging labels, including five headline shows that are held at Carriageworks each evening.

“Due to the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC)’s mandate against holding non-essential, organised public gatherings of more than 500 people in light of global health concerns regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus), we regret to share that Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia 2020 will not take place,” said Natalie Xenita, executive director of IMG’s fashion events group, Asia-Pacific region, in a news statement.

“We thank our incredible designers, producers, partners and staff for their support of the Australian fashion community and look forward to celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2021.”

Previously an industry-only event, MBFWA was set to open its event for the first time to consumers inviting the general public to purchase tickets to select designer shows on the schedule, as well as attend seminars and special events.

IMG was expecting about 1,600 industry professionals from over 20 countries to hit Sydney to see the Resort 2021 ready-to-wear collections.
