Mulberry unveils Richard Malone collab

Mulberry is continuing its series of high-profile collaborations to mark its 50th anniversary, the latest under the Mulberry Editions title being with Richard Malone. It will launch digitally on Sunday with a global in-store debut on Monday to coincide with London Fashion Week.

Mulberry x Richard Malone

For his limited-edition capsule, Malone has “reimagined” Mulberry’s popular Bayswater and Darley bags. Taking inspiration directly from the brand’s archives, he “deconstructed the Bayswater, transporting interior design details – such as pockets, piping and serial numbered fobs – to the exterior of the bags”. The collection consists of a Bayswater, Mini Bayswater, Small Darley and two new styles — The Triangle Bayswater and Barrel Bag. These are accompanied by accessories including a Coin Pouch and Key Fob.

The company said that both it and Malone “are passionate about championing British craftsmanship and sustainability, which is translated throughout the collection”. That mainly means an eco-friendly version of Mulberry’s signature scotchgrain material (which has been a key part of its collections for decades) is used across all styles. It’s made from bio-synthetic materials, “repurposing inedible cereal waste into a hard-wearing, lightweight material that looks and feels the same as the original textured leather”.

To support all this, it has also released a campaign that “stars some of Malone’s closest creative collaborators”. It’s “an insight into the people who influence and inspire him”. Those featured include Alighieri Jewellery founder Rosh Mahtani, photographer Ronan Mckenzie, Fashion East founder Lulu Kennedy and stylist Nell Kalonji.
