After the Shanghai opening in 2010, the company is for Beijing-bound. Shang Xia, a luxury lifestyle brand created by Hermès, disembarked on the Chinese capital on 8th October in the city’s China World Mall. Following the example set by the first store opening, this boutique is the work of Japanese architect Kengo Kuma who has created a space which reflects the city of Beijing and the brand’s logo. The transparent partitions are hand-crafted from aluminum are reminiscent of the company’s logo and are used to separate different areas of the store. The contrasts between up (‘Shang’) and down (‘Xia’), indoors and outdoors, modern and traditional are the prominent themes of the store.
