‘Versace will not participate in the Paris haute couture shows,’ the Italian label confirmed to Efe.

The historic name, founded by Gianni Versace in 1978, thus declines to take to the podiums during the four-day session that welcomes the most exclusive and globally significant labels.

The Donatella Versace group explained that from 2017, it would focus on bringing its collections to ‘key markets worldwide’ at increasingly private and client-exclusive events.

‘We are entrusting our historic haute couture label to this new business model because it will place us in a position for solid growth in the coming years,’ the group stated. It did not disclose details on its performance at previous haute couture weeks.

In the wake of this decision, those attending the next Paris showcase of haute couture, accustomed to seeing the glittering creations of fashion houses like Valentino, Chanel and Dior, will not on this occasion be able to admire any treasures from Versace, a label known for having revolutionized the red carpets of the world’s most highly mediatized events.
