In her new role, Carlson will oversee all design aspects of Vuori's women's category, which the brand recently launched after first debuting its men's collection in 2015.

Carlson most recently served as Athleta's vice president of design and product innovation, where she directed seasonal vision, color palette, print, and product development across all categories, oversaw product conceptualization and operations, and supervised product sustainability efforts and partnerships. In addition, she oversaw the launch of Athleta Academy, the athleticwear brand's performance designer training program.

Prior to her time at Athleta, Carlson also served in a variety of leadership roles in other companies, including senior director of global design roles at Gap and Banana Republic, and senior designer positions at Tommy Hilfiger, New York & Company, Liz Claiborne, Levi Strauss and Harve Benard.

Carlson also founded Sarah Carlson, Inc., her eponymous design group, in July of 2018.

"I have always been passionate about designing apparel that supports women to lead active, healthy, and vibrant lifestyles," Carlson said in a press release. "With its refreshed perspective on performance apparel, Vuori undoubtedly shares those passions with me as they continually break the boundaries of traditional activewear."

Carlson's appointment comes as Vuori plans to launch an expanded collection of womenswear this spring and follows brick-and-mortar store openings in Manhattan Beach and San Francisco last summer.

Vuori will open its next store in Del Mar, California later this year.
